Charles-Newton completes Native American Congressional Internship

Eugenia Eugenia Charles-Newton, a current SIRLS student, completed a Morris K. Udall Foundation Native American Congressional Internship this summer.  She worked full-time for U.S. Senator Tom Udall of New Mexico.

There she observed the federal legislative and executive processes first-hand.  Regarding the internship, Charles-Newton stated, “The Udall internship was a wonderful experience. Working for Senator Tom Udall gave me the chance to see the how a Senator’s office functions. It also gave me a front row seat to what a Senator REALLY has to endure to serve his constituents. I met people who were passionate about their views and was able to offer assistance when I could. Basically, this internship gave me the chance to feel what it is like to work in public service.”

The deadline to apply for the 2010 Native American Congressional Internships in Washington, D.C., is January 29, 2010.  To obtain more information on the Morris K. Udall Foundation, visit www.udall.gov or contact Jane Curlin at (520) 901-8500 or by email at curlin@udall.gov.
